Fox News announced Monday that Fox & Friends Weekend co-host Will Cain will debut an eponymous show in the network’s 4 p.m. time slot, effectively replacing Neil Cavuto, a skeptic of Donald Trump who regularly drew the president-elect’s ire.

After stints at ESPN, CNN, and the right-wing site The Blaze, Cain joined Fox in August 2020. In addition to co-hosting the network’s weekend show, he has occasionally filled in on The Five, Jesse Watters Primetime, and, in the wake of Tucker Carlson’s exit, Fox News Tonight.

In a statement, Fox CEO Suzanne Scott said Cain “brings years of experience to the 4 PM hour as an accomplished broadcaster and a lawyer and we look forward to adding his insights to what will no doubt be another historic news cycle ahead this year.”

Cain, who obtained his law degree from the University of Texas Law School, added, “It has been an honor to wake up with America these past four years and I am thrilled to apply my background in news, law, entertainment and business to help our viewers better understand the headlines through thought-provoking content and analysis every weekday afternoon.”

While Trump hasn’t yet weighed in about Cain’s new role, he’s likely to be more fond of him than the anchor Cain is replacing.

Cavuto, Trump has said, is “one of the WORST on television.” Upon his announcement last month that he would be leaving Fox, Trump celebrated it as “GOOD NEWS FOR AMERICA!”

The longtime newsman had made it clear over the years that he had no interest in “fawning” over Trump despite his demands for positive coverage, criticizing him publicly over Covid-19, his misinformation about Hurricane Helene, and his election denialism.

Cain is much less likely to be critical of the president-elect—though he did write before Trump was first elected president that conservatives should denounce his candidacy.

In recent years, however, Cain has been firmly in support of Trump and his “Make America Great Again” agenda.

In September 2023, Cain argued that President Joe Biden was carrying out of the “destruction” of the United States through his immigration policies “on purpose.”

The following year, while recapping his joint interview of Trump, he called some of Trump’s critics “single-cell, amoeba-level intelligence individuals out there with no real ability to escape 2016’s Trump derangement syndrome.”

Cain also once called Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar “a parasite feeding off of a host until that host will ultimately die,” and lamented how doctors were “captured by groupthink” for being in favor of Covid-19 vaccinations.

According to Fox, Cain’s show will launch Jan. 21, the day after Trump’s inauguration.

Cain’s replacement on Fox & Friends Weekend will be network contributor Charlie Hurt.
