‘Friends’ Viewership Surges Following Matthew Perry’s Death; ‘Suits’ Gives Up No. 1 Nielsen Spot To ‘No Hard Feelings’

For the first time since June, Suits did not manage to surpass 1B minutes viewed during the week of October 23 to 29.

With 997M minutes viewed, the USA Network legal drama came in second on Nielsen’s streaming charts during this interval. This brings to an end its 18-week streak of reaching over 1B minutes, which, while impressive, is actually not the record holder.

According to Nielsen, that honor goes to The Office, previously marking 30 weeks over 1B minutes. However, Suits did break a record by holding onto the No. 1 spot for 15 weeks, surpassing Ozark‘s 11-week streak.

The Jennifer Lawrence romantic comedy No Hard Feelings took over first place with 1.1B minutes viewed — the only title with over 1B minutes this interval. Nielsen says the film attracted a very broad audience: viewing age was equally distributed across 18-64 demos, and 30% of viewers were Hispanic or African American.

The Fall Of The House Of Usher managed to hang onto third place with 944M minutes viewed.

Another new film entrant on the list, Five Nights at Freddy’s came in at No. 8 on the overall list with 740M minutes viewed in just its first few days on Peacock after hitting the service on October 27. By comparison, Nielsen says that Halloween Ends scored about 717M minutes viewed in its first three days on Peacock. Expect to see this horror flick stick around on the charts into November.

Disney+ didn’t have any originals on the overall list, but Loki kept the streamer afloat on the originals list at No. 4. With the release of Season 2 Episode 4, the series racked up 514M minutes viewed. That’s one spot higher than the series managed the week prior, despite a small drop in viewing.

Audiences also took some time to commemorate the life of Matthew Perry, following the actor’s sudden death on October 28. In just the few hours until this interval closed, Friends tallied 583M minutes viewed, pushing it to No. 7 on the acquired titles list.

This is the highest weekly total for Friends since the end of January, when the series saw just over 600M minutes viewed.
