Dubai-based esports organisation Galaxy Racer announced on Thursday (17 February) that they will be hosting the GAMERS GALAXY: Dota 2 Invitational Series Dubai 2022.

The tournament will feature some of the best Dota 2 teams in the world competing in a LAN for their cut of the AED1,000,000 (over US$270,000) prize pool from 2 to 6 March.

The GAMERS GALAXY Invitational will have 10 participating teams from Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia, and North America.

Some of the participating teams include: The International 10 champions Team Spirit; Western European juggernauts Team Secret, OG, and Tundra Esports; Southeast Asian powerhouses BOOM Esports and Fnatic; as well as Eastern Europe's Virtus.pro and North America's TSM FTX.

The field will be rounded out by Nigma Galaxy and Nigma Galaxy SEA, the two squads under the banner of Galaxy Racer and Team Nigma following their merger last September.

The tournament will be hosted in Dubai Studio City to "ensure that all players and staff are able to compete in a safe environment", Galaxy Racer said in a press release on Thursday (17 February).

"As a landmark event for Dubai it will help continue to highlight the country as a growing hub for global esports," added Galaxy Racer.

The GAMERS GALAXY Dota 2 Invitational will begin with a group stage, which will see the 10 participating teams split into two groups of five teams each and compete in a best-of-one round robin. The Top 3 teams of each group will advance to the playoffs while the bottom two will be eliminated.

The Top 2 teams of each group will start the playoffs in the upper bracket semifinals while the third and fourth-placed teams will proceed to a best of three play-in, where the winners will proceed to the lower bracket of the playoffs. The tournament will conclude with a best-of-five grand finals.

Aside from featuring some of the best Dota 2 teams in the world, the GAMERS GALAXY Dota 2 Invitational will also be the first major tournament to be played in the 7.31 patch, will which be released on 23 February following the conclusion of the 2021-2022 Dota Pro Circuit Winter Tour Regional Finals.

“We have a lot of exciting elements planned for the tournament and I'm proud we are able to have the best teams globally compete against each other in Dubai,” Paul Roy, founder and CEO of Galaxy Racer, said in a statement.

The GAMERS GALAXY is the first high-tier Dota 2 tournament to be held in the region this year.
