New Game of Thrones prequel series officially ordered

Max (HBO Max's recently announced new name) has confirmed that production is moving forward on the Game of Thrones prequel series A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms: The Hedge Knight.

Based on George R.R. Martin's Dunk and Egg books, the prequel is set 90 years before the events of the main series and will follow the story of Ser Duncan 'Dunk' the Tall and Aegon V 'Egg' Targaryen (via Variety).

"A century before the events of Game of Thrones, two unlikely heroes wandered Westeros… a young, naïve but courageous knight, Ser Duncan the Tall, and his diminutive squire, Egg," the show's official synopsis reads.

It continues: "Set in an age when the Targaryen line still holds the Iron Throne and the memory of the last dragon has not yet passed from living memory, great destinies, powerful foes and dangerous exploits all await these improbable and incomparable friends."

Martin has written three stories in the Dunk and Egg series, 'The Hedge Knight' (1998), 'The Sworn Sword' (2003) and 'The Mystery Knight' (2010).

The author will serve as a writer and executive producer on the series. Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon alums Ryan Condal, Vince Gerardis and Ira Parker will also be back to executive produce.
