Gavin Rossdale Mourns the Death of His Dog Chewy: 'He Was Magic'
The Bush rock star shared the sad news in a memorial post on Instagram
Rock star Gavin Rossdale is mourning the death of his dog, Chewy.
On Saturday, the Bush singer and guitarist shared a video featuring some of his favorite moments with his beloved pet set to the tune of his band's "Nowhere to Go but Everywhere" on Instagram. Among the photos are snaps of Chewy joining him for a Target run, with members of Bush, and photos of the Pomeranian with Rossdale's sons — Kingston, 17, Zuma, 15, and Apollo, 9 — all of whom he shares with his ex-wife, Gwen Stefani — as well as daughter Daisy Lowe, 34, whom he shares with Pearl Lowe.
Alongside the video, Rossdale shared a touching tribute in which he revealed that Chewy died unexpectedly "a few days ago" on Jan. 6. He was 11.
"This is the last post I ever wanted to write," Rossdale began. "So regretfully… We buried Chewy today. we lost him suddenly a few days ago. its been a rough few days. me and the fam are pretty heartbroken."
He went on to add that all of Chewy's favorite spots are "vacant" and the "house feels different now" that his beloved pup is gone. "The floor has no life." he wrote.

Rossdale also shared that Chewy was the first small dog he had ever been around, and he originally never thought they would form such a strong bond.
"I never been around small dogs before and at first I never expected to connect with such a supermodel but within a short time, I was smitten," his post continued. "And he was my absolute little furry bestie."
Rossdale concluded, "I can’t stop thinking about him even if I look like I’m doing something else. He was the one there through all my hardest and loneliest times. He was magic. Love your pets. Love your people. Love yourself better."
The "Glycerine" singer also indicated that Chewy has been part of his family for almost 12 years, writing, "Chewy McGregor Rossdale August 15th 2012 - Jan 6th 2024."
Rossdale's friends and fans were quick to share their condolences in the comments. Bush drummer Nik Hughes wrote, "❤️❤️❤️. Chewy was/is the best!" Breaking Benjamin frontman Keith Wallen added, "I’m so sorry Gavin. 😞 We all loved Chewy. ❤️"

Chewy has long been a fixture on Rossdale's social media. In 2023, he kept his fans updated after Chewy was "injured badly" and later had to learn how to walk again after a procedure went wrong.
"Little update for chewy - he’s a soldier and is coming through his own war. learning to walk again after a procedure that went horribly wrong," he wrote at the time. "Then he developed meningitis which means between the two disasters he has had to learn to walk again. he stayed home from tour to get better. Slowly slowly."
