Gayle King defends Justin Timberlake as ‘not reckless’ despite DWI arrest

NEW YORK — Justin Timberlake is getting more celebrity support following his DWI arrest Tuesday — this time from Gayle King, who insists the incident in the Hamptons isn’t a stain on the pop star’s character.

The “CBS Mornings” anchor said on Wednesday’s episode that the NSYNC alum “is a really, really great guy.”

“This is clearly a mistake. I bet nobody knows it more than he,” she added, noting that while there’s “never any excuse for [drunk driving],” the “Selfish” singer is “not an irresponsible person, he’s not reckless, he’s not careless.”

Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday in Sag Harbor, Long Island, after he blew through a stop sign, failed multiple field sobriety tests and refused a breathalyzer.

Timberlake was arraigned later that day on a single DWI charge. He’s scheduled to appear in court on July 26 — the same day he’s supposed to perform in Kraków, Poland, as part of his “Forget Tomorrow World Tour.”

It remains unclear how the ordeal will affect the tour, which is set to come to Madison Square Garden on Tuesday and Wednesday.

New York son Billy Joel also supported Timberlake, telling PIX11 News this week: “Judge not lest ye be judged.”
