Gayle King's Cutest Photos with Her Grandson, Luca

The morning show host can't get enough of her "favorite" (and only) grandchild

Gayle King is "living la vida Luca," as she likes to say!

The CBS Mornings co-host became a first-time grandmother in September 2021, when her daughter Kirby Bumpus welcomed a son, Luca Lynn, with her husband Virgil Miller. When King announced her grandson's arrival on TV, she was still buzzing and overjoyed by her family's new addition.

"He's very, very cute, so congratulations to my favorite daughter, my favorite son-in-law," King gushed on air. "Now I have a favorite grandson! I'm over the moon."

Love at First Sight

Shortly after Luca's birth in September 2021, the talk show star shared some of their first few photos together on Oprah Daily. In one photo, King can be seen peering over the newborn as she holds his arms.

Snuggled Up

"I'm so nuts about this child," King said during a March 2022 episode of Parents magazine's We Are Family podcast. "I'm certainly not the first person to have a grandchild — I realize that, but what I like is seeing Kirby become a mother herself. She's so good at it. She and her husband, Virgil, are such great partners."

Quality Time

"I wanted to be a grandmother for a long time, and it's really something when you see your own child become a parent," King said in 2021, when she revealed the news of Luca's arrival.

All Together Now

The three generations of King's family spent baby Luca's first Thanksgiving "in paradise," as the morning show host described it on Instagram. King posted several photos from their fall getaway, included one heartwarming shot with Bumpus and her tiny son.

Loving Every Minute

Shortly after Luca's arrival in 2021, King gushed about being a grandma during an episode of CBS Mornings.

"Listen, I know people have grandchildren every day, but there's something about when you have your own that you go, 'Oh my God, how long has this been going on?'" she said during the "Talk of the Table" segment.

Milestone Moments

Luca's family celebrated his first birthday in custom T-shirts with his face on them. The proud grandma showed off some of the highlights from their celebration on social media, including an impressive video of the tot taking a few steps.

"Yep favorite grandson is walking!" she wrote.

Runs in the Family

"Don’t all grandparents try to match their grandchildren orrrr get in the playpen? Living la vida LUCA," King caption a carousel of photos and videos spending time with her grandson.

In one photo from her post, the broadcast journalist poses in a sunny strapless dress that matches Luca's similarly bright onesie. Another sweet snap sees King sitting with the little one in his play area.

Making Memories

This summer, King traveled abroad with baby Luca and the rest of their family. According to her Instagram roundup, the group enjoyed lots of sun, fun and quality time.

"Family VACATION with all the favorites NEVER gets old! Returning to the states with a bunch of great memories !" the grandmother of one wrote.
