Gen Z staff at Malaysian hotpot restaurant failed to recognise Hong Kong actor Louis Koo

The staff members only realised it was the actor after the owner checked CCTV footage the next day.

If you grew up watching Hong Kong movies and television shows in the late 1990s and early 2000s, Louis Koo would be a very recognisable face.

However, employees of a younger generation at a hotpot restaurant in Kuala Lumpur did not recognise the 52-year-old celebrity when he visited the restaurant.

According to multiple media outlets, the restaurant owner was notified by her staff the next day of a table that had spent about RM2,000 for their meal.

Curious to know who the big spender was, she then checked the closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the night before, only to realise it was the actor and a few other personalities as well.

Koo was reportedly joined by fellow Hong Kong actors Raymond Wong, Chrissie Chau and Cheung Siu Fai, all of whom were in KL for work.

Social media post by restaurant owner

The owner shared a photo post on Chinese social media platform Xiao Hong Shu, which showed Koo from that evening.

She wrote, "Isn't this Louis Koo? Why is it that those born after the year 2000 can't recognise (him)? Is there really a generational gap between us?"

Netizens responded to her picture post, some saying that most youngsters only know of "K-pop stars and social media influencers".

The post appears to have been deleted at the time of publication.

Koo began his career as an actor in Hong Kong, before winning TVB's Best Actor award in 1999 and 2001.

In 2018, he also won the Best Actor prize at the 37th Hong Kong Film Awards, 12th Asian Film Awards and 12th Hong Kong Film Directors' Guild Award, for his performance in 2017 action flick, Paradox.

Koo was reported to have filmed a new movie 'Behind the Shadows' in September, of which he plays the role of a detective.
