Yu-Peng Chen, the Chinese composer and music producer responsible for many iconic soundtracks from HoYoverse's Genshin Impact, has announced his departure from HOYO-MiX, HoYoverse's in-house music studio, on Tuesday (12 September)

In a post on his official Bilibili account, Chen revealed that he decided to part ways with HoYoverse and HOYO-MiX in order to continue pursuing his music dreams elsewhere.

"After careful consideration for some time and several discussions with the company, I have chosen to leave miHoYo and the HOYO-MiX team to continue pursuing my music dreams!," Chen's post read.

"Seeing my fellow composers at HOYO-MiX team constantly growing, witnessing Genshin Impact's music progressing step by step (Fontaine Music is really great), and recalling the support and help the company and my colleagues have given me during the music production process... They are truly the most beautiful and unforgettable memories!"

Chen added that he will continue to "explore the path of music" and is planning to release a new album of purely instrumental music next year.

The composer also asked Genshin Impact players that they respect his decision to part ways with HoYoverse.

"I earnestly request everyone's understanding and respect for my decision," said Chen.

"I hope you will continue to support my creations. In the future, I will continue to explore Teyvat's wonders together with everyone as a Traveler!"

Yu-Peng Chen has been a key part to the soundtracks that brought the nations of Mondstadt, Liyue, Inazuma, and Sumeru to life as lead music producer and co-composer.

His key role in creating Genshin Impact's beautiful music even led to fans endearingly calling him the "Music Archon", in reference to the Archons that preside over the game's seven elements in lore.

During his time in HOYO-MiX, Chen composed over seven albums and co-composed 10 other albums for Genshin Impact.

He also composed the iconic single Devastation and Redemption, which featured during Genshin Impact's second Lantern Rite festivities during version 2.4.

Chen was also the composer for Fatui Harbinger Scaramouche's battle theme: Polumnia Omnia. He even lent his voice as the main vocalist for the track's original version heard in-game.

Chen also bagged awards and nominations for his work in Genshin Impact's soundtrack, earning the BIGC Award for Excellent Game Music of the Year, CGIAC Award for Excellent Game Music, Annual Game Music Award for Outstanding Artist – Newcomer/Breakthrough in 2020.

In 2021, he also earned a nomination for PlayStation Game Music Award and won the CMIC Music Award for Best Score Soundtrack for a Video Game for the album Jade Moon Upon A Sea of Clouds.
