The game's developer also revealed that they are working on a revamped Daily Commissions system that will be added in a future update.

Genshin Impact developer HoYoverse is drumming up the hype for the highly-anticipated release of the new Fontaine region in version 4.0, revealing more content coming in the update such as improvements to the Artifacts system as well as new Battle Pass weapons.

HoYoverse unveiled these changes in a new ‘Developers Discussion’ blog post on Tuesday (2 August) while also teasing further improvements to the game after version 4.0.

Some of the biggest changes revealed were multiple optimisations to the Genshin Impact’s Artifact system, with the most notable being the addition of eight new Artifact sets to the Crafting Bench’s Artifact Strongbox, where players can use any three Artifacts to create one Artifact from a set of their choosing.

Among the new Artifact sets coming to the Artifact Strongbox are highly-valued sets like the Emblem of Severed Fate, Shimenawa’s Reminiscence, and Tenacity of the Millelith as well as more niche ones like the Pale Flame, Husk of Opulent Dreams, Ocean-Hued Clam, Vermillion Hereafter, and Echoes of an Offering.

In addition, the total number of Artifacts a player is able to hold in their inventory will also be increased from 1,500 to 1,800 while destroying multiple 4-star Artifacts at once will also be made easier.

Another major change coming in version 4.0 are five new weapons that can be acquired through the Battle Pass, which will increase the total number to 10, two for each type of weapon.

Genshin Impact releases a new Battle Pass with every version, and players who reach Battle Pass level 30 and purchase the Gnostic Hymn upgrade can choose one from a selection of weapons as a reward.

HoYoverse did not reveal these new Battle Pass weapons yet, clarifying they will do so in another time, most likely the upcoming version 4.0 preview livestream on 4 August. It bears repeating that the new 4.0 Battle Pass weapons will not replace the existing ones and will instead be added as additional options.

Other upcoming changes in version 4.0 include the previously-revealed multi-layered map, a spectator option for Genius Invokation TCG matches, Gyroscope controller support, and a new Teleport Waypoint that will ease the arrival for players to the new region of Fontaine.

HoYoverse teases revamped Daily Commissions system, Artifact loadouts

While the above changes are coming alongside Genshin Impact version 4.0, HoYoverse also revealed that they are working on a revamped Daily Commissions system and further improvements to the Artifact system that will be added in future versions.

HoYoverse said in the blog post that they have observed that the current Daily Commission mechanics are “not flexible enough”. Therefore, the developers revealed that they are set to introduce an overhaul to how the game handles the Daily Commissions and their rewards.

While HoYoverse did not reveal further details on the revamp, we can expect something along the lines of Honkai: Star Rail’s Daily Missions, which have been lauded by Star Rail and Genshin players alike for its flexibility and convenience.

Currently, Genshin Impact’s Daily Commissions will have players complete a set of four mini-quests in any one of the game’s regions to earn the daily rewards. These can range from defeating a group of enemies, completing exploration challenges, or even lengthy NPC-related mini-quests.

Some of Genshin Impact’s Daily Commissions can be quite the hassle, especially the ones where players have to sit through a lengthy dialogue with an NPC before they are even handed a task to do.

By comparison, Honkai: Star Rail’s Daily Missions can be completed without much hassle as they are tied closely with the usual day-to-day grind for players.

Players will need to complete five out of seven missions to get all of the daily rewards. These missions are much easier than Genshin’s Commissions, as they include defeating a certain number of enemies, destroying destructible objects, and even using the game’s Photo-taking system, among others.

Hopefully, HoYoverse comes up with something very similar to, if not the same as, Honkai: Star Rail’s Daily Missions for the revamped Daily Commissions system for Genshin Impact.

Aside from that, HoYoverse also said they are working on an optimized Artifact locking system and what seems to be plans for a new Artifact loadout system in an effort to “reduce the cost of managing artifacts and improve your experience”.

Genshin Impact is currently in version 3.8, which features a new summer event as well as reruns for Eula, Klee, the Wanderer, and Kokomi.

The highly-anticipated release of Fontaine in Genshin Impact version 4.0 will be in mid-August. The first batch of playable characters from the region include the sibling trio of Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet.

But more than just adding a new region, version 4.0 will also add a new dimension to Genshin Impact's gameplay by introducing underwater exploration and combat!
