Georgia vs Czech Republic LIVE! Euro 2024 result, match stream and latest updates today

Georgia vs Czech Republic - LIVE!

Georgia earned their first point at a major tournament as they held on for a 1-1 draw against Czech Republic. It was a typically frantic start from Georgia, all-action in Hamburg to the delight of their raucous support, and they got their reward in first-half stoppage time.

VAR awarded them penalty for handball and Georges Mikautadze held his nerve to convert from the spot for his second goal at Euro 2024. Czech Republic had been on top for much of the opening period and had the ball in the net themselves, but replays showed the final touch came off Adam Hlozek’s arm. Their dominance was soon established after the break, and the almost inevitable equaliser came on the hour mark. Ondrej Lingr’s header from a corner bounced off the post, effectively hit Patrik Schick and rolled into the net.

The Czechs piled forward in search of a winner, looking a constant threat from set-pieces and crosses out wide, but Georgia held firm and, with the final kick, should have won it. They cleared the ball as a long-range shot was blocked, and suddenly had a three-on-one as they broke into the Czech half. The ball was rolled into the path of Saba Lobjanidze, who blasted over the bar with the match in his hands.

FT: Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:58 , Matt Verri

WHAT A MISS! GEORGIA SHOULD HAVE WON IT!

They have everyone camped back, but they break and it’s three-on-one.

Rolled into the path of Lobjanidze... OVER.

And that’s full-time.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:55 , Matt Verri

90+3 mins: It’s almost too patient from Czech Republic.

Waiting for the perfect moment to cross it in. Just lump it in there!

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:52 , Matt Verri

90 mins: Georgia are hanging in there. Massive effort to keep the Czechs at bay... so far.

Five minutes added on.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:48 , Matt Verri

86 mins: Ball turned behind, yet another Czech corner coming up. Taken quickly, then swung in... flicked away. Take two.

Short again, fizzed into the near post and Georgia clear.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:46 , Matt Verri

83 mins: Referee is now booking anyone and everyone. Avoid eye contact at all costs.

All these fouls are at least doing the job for Georgia. Czech Republic losing momentum.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:43 , Matt Verri

80 mins: Georgia are slowing it right down when they get the ball back, no rush at all.

And they will slow it down even more now, as Soucek slides in and earns a yellow card.

Not even a foul.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:39 , Matt Verri

77 mins: Cross comes in from the opposite flank this time, fired to the near post.

Chytil gets across his man, throws himself at the ball and flicks a header beyond the far post.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:37 , Matt Verri

75 mins: You would say Georgia would snap your hand off for a draw. They look really tired.

Czechs keep working it wide to Coufal, who is swinging in the crosses.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:34 , Matt Verri

72 mins: Alarm bells ringing for Georgia. Corner for Czech Republic.

More like it, Kashia gets up to win the initial header and Georgia survive.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:32 , Matt Verri

70 mins: Coufal basically playing up front now. Wouldn’t say that necessarily plays to his strengths....

He has to get back now as Georgia attack down their left, they are just starting to slow down the Czech charge.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:31 , Matt Verri

68 mins: Schick is going to have to come off.

Chytil on, he has a serious amount of strapping on his back. Bit of effort to get the shirt on - not a great start.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:29 , Matt Verri

66 mins: Kvaratskhelia thinks he’s won a corner for Georgia, but whistle goes for a free-kick against him.

Georgia could really have done with that breather.

They will get one here though. Schick down off the ball.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:27 , Matt Verri

64 mins: Feels like Georgia would do very well to get out of this with a point now.

Czech Republic first to everything, they are flying forward as they look to take the lead.

Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic

15:26 , Matt Verri

61 mins: It’s one-way traffic now. Another Czech Republic coming up, after good work from Coufal. He’ll take it again.

Just wide! Georgia can’t defend them. Krejci is free, header is just wide.

GOAL! Georgia 1-1 Czech Republic | Patrik Schick 59'

15:21 , Matt Verri

There’s the equaliser!

And Georgia are made to pay for not doubling the lead.

Corner whopped in, initial header bounces off the post and just hits Schick, rolling into the net.

Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

15:20 , Matt Verri

57 mins: Massive chance for Georgia!

They fly forward on the counter, Kvaratskhelia sliding the pass through to Mekvabishvili.

Opens up for him on the edge of the box... just wide.

Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

15:17 , Matt Verri

55 mins: First two changes for the Czechs.

Hlozek and Cerny off, replaced by Lingr and Jurasek.

Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

15:15 , Matt Verri

53 mins: Kvaratskhelia does try and get Georgia up the pitch, only to be tripped by Holes.

We’ve had a couple of soft yellow cards this afternoon, but that was a fairly obvious one.

Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

15:13 , Matt Verri

51 mins: Georgia are starting to sit deep now, just smashing the ball up the pitch.

Czech Republic pinning them back - 40 minutes is a long time to try and hold on like this.

Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

15:11 , Matt Verri

48 mins: Lovely move out on the left wing from Georgia, started this half well.

Tsitaishvili with the cross, too close to the goalkeeper though and it’s claimed.

Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

15:09 , Matt Verri

47 mins: Barely a minute into the half and Jurasek is booked.

Blocked off Mikautadze, went down holding his face and hoped the referee would take pity. He did not.

Back underway!

15:08 , Matt Verri

We’re up and running again in Hamburg.

Will Georgia sit deep?

15:07 , Matt Verri

Czech Republic had 13 shots in that first-half, Georgia only two.

None of that matters though, it is Georgia who have the lead.

We haven’t seen them have something to hold onto at this tournament yet - will be interesting to see how brave they decide to be.

That penalty decision...

14:57 , Matt Verri

As soon as the still image of the outstretched arm was shown, the penalty was always going to be given.

Nobody appealed for it in real time, but Czech Republic can’t really complain.

HT: Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

14:52 , Matt Verri

And that is half-time.

Czech Republic will find it hard to believe they are behind.

VAR ruled out a goal for them, and then gave a penalty at the other end.

Mikautadze has his second goal of the tournament.

Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic

14:51 , Matt Verri

45+5 mins: WHAT A SAVE!

That penalty isn’t the final act of the half!

Soucek with the pass, Schick looks certain to score but he’s brilliantly denied.

GOAL! Georgia 1-0 Czech Republic | Georges Mikautadze 45+4'

14:49 , Matt Verri

Mikautadze to take... Mikautadze to score!

Georgia in front, basically the final kick of the half.

PENALTY GEORGIA!

14:47 , Matt Verri

There’s a VAR review for handball, and the referee is over to look at the monitor.

Hranac with the arm outstretched...

GIVEN!

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:47 , Matt Verri

45+1 mins: Two minutes added on.

Massive chance for Kashia, ball drops for him at close range but his shot is smothered!

Their best chance of the match.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:45 , Matt Verri

44 mins: Krejci launches Davitashvili into the advertising hoardings, bit of a cheap shot.

Georgian forward has hurt his wrist as he tried, unsuccessfully, to stop himself crashing into trouble.

Free-kick whipped in, but Czech Republic are winning absolutely everything in the air.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:43 , Matt Verri

42 mins: Georgia want a corner, Czech Republic want a goal-kick...

Referee looks over to the linesman, gets no help at all and decides a goal-kick is the safer option.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:40 , Matt Verri

40 mins: We can’t go 30 seconds without a foul at the moment.

Provod tries to win the ball back, slightly late and he too is shown the yellow card.

Referee is going to run out of room on that card at this rate.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:37 , Matt Verri

37 mins: That’s cleared, and Kashia then earns himself a booking as he clatters Soucek.

Wasn’t letting that Czech Republic counter get anywhere.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:35 , Matt Verri

35 mins: Georgia are looking dangerous again.

Kvaratskhelia involved, before Coufal just about turns the ball behind for a corner. Wasn’t far away from an own goal.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:33 , Matt Verri

33 mins: Better spell of possession for Georgia, slowing things down and getting themselves back into this match after a tough period.

Reminder that a draw would leave both sides needing a win in their final group-stage matches... have to imagine they’ll both be pushing for a win here.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:29 , Matt Verri

29 mins: Czech Republic need to take one of these chances.

Hlozek charges into the box, plenty of space on his right foot but he lashes the strike straight at Mamardashvili.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:28 , Matt Verri

25 mins: Georgia fans are bouncing again now, it’s like they scored themselves.

Need to get the intensity up again, they have dropped off and Czech Republic are very much on top.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:28 , Matt Verri

27 mins: Lovely move from Czech Republic, Georgia carved open.

Cerny plays a couple of one-twos, swings at the ball in the box as he loses balance and the tame effort it saved.

Not that it matters - offside flag goes up.

NO GOAL!

14:24 , Matt Verri

Or not.

Hit Hlozek’s head, off his arm and into the net.

Ruled out for handball.

GOAL! Georgia 0-1 Czech Republic | Adam Hlozek 23'

14:23 , Matt Verri

It had been coming!

Again the long throw causes huge problems for Georgia.

Drops for Hlozek at the back post, his first effort is saved but it bounces back off him and rolls into the net.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:21 , Matt Verri

21 mins: Pace of the match has just started to slow down a bit.

Inevitable, no chance it was going to continue like that first 10 minutes for the full match.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:18 , Matt Verri

18 mins: Kvaratskhelia goes on another one of his solo runs, clipped by Coufal and throws himself to the floor.

Free-kick... and yellow card. That seems ridiculously harsh. Coufal bemused by that decision.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:15 , Matt Verri

15 mins: Couple of Czech corners in quick succession. Georgia not particularly enjoying the crosses swung into their box.

Cerny’s low ball runs through to Soucek, bounces off him and behind.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:14 , Matt Verri

13 mins: Provod tries his luck from distance, shot takes a big deflection and loops up for the goalkeeper.

Don’t want to jinx anything, but it would be the biggest shock of the tournament if this finishes 0-0.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:12 , Matt Verri

11 mins: It was Krejci desperately scrambling back to challenge, he fell down himself and sort of took Davitashvili with him.

Just about gets away with it, but he was nowhere near the ball.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:11 , Matt Verri

10 mins: Massive penalty appeals from Georgia... referee waves it away.

That looked a decent shout, as Davitashvili drove into the box.

VAR will have a look...

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:10 , Matt Verri

9 mins: Big chance for Schick as the ball drops for him on the edge of the box, Kashia throws himself in the way to block.

Georgia then break, as Kvaratskhelia skips away from two defenders. So sharp.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:08 , Matt Verri

7 mins: Tsitaishvili with a brilliant run down the left, crowded out though as Soucek gets across.

We’ve had more entertainment in these seven minutes than certain teams have served up in an hour and a half.

Mentioning no names...

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:05 , Matt Verri

5 mins: Now Davitashvili drives into the box, Czech Republic scramble it behind. Corner cleared.

This match is already delivering. Being played at a ridiculous pace.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:04 , Matt Verri

3 mins: Chaos!

Mamardashvili makes two saves in about five seconds, and there’s a brilliant block in there too. How are Czech Republic not in front?

All came from Coufal launching a long throw into the box, Georgia didn’t deal with it well at all.

Georgia 0-0 Czech Republic

14:02 , Matt Verri

2 mins: It is seriously loud every time Georgia do something vaguely decent.

Know that as there have been plenty of positives in the first couple of minutes, straight on the front.

Czech Republic, meanwhile, booed as they pass the ball around.

KICK-OFF!

14:01 , Matt Verri

We’re up and running in Hamburg!

13:59 , Matt Verri

Anthems done - advantage Georgia. Helps that there’s was about five minutes long.

Good news for them is that Mikautadze and Kvaratskhelia are out and look to be fine to start after their warm-up scares.

Nearly time!

13:54 , Matt Verri

Teams are in the tunnel, they will be out onto the pitch in Hamburg any minute now.

We’ve had England boring everyone to tears, a goalless draw between France and the Netherlands...

Time for these two to get this tournament back on track!

Real concern for Georgia...

13:46 , Matt Verri

Well the warm-ups aren’t going very well for Georgia.

Mikautadze and Kvaratskhelia, the two key players, have both taken a knock and limped out of the rondo.

The magic spray has been out - Georgia will be praying it does the job.

Czech Republic to break the run?

13:40 , Matt Verri

There’s been a pattern to Czech Republic’s runs at the Euros.

2000: Group-stage exit

2004: Semi-finals

2008: Group-stage exit

2012: Quarter-finals

2016: Group-stage exit

2020: Quarter-finals

2024: ... I’m afraid they are due to a group-stage exit. Can’t argue with that.

Close to must-win for both sides?

13:32 , Matt Verri

Only Hungary and Poland have no points to their name after two matches at Euro 2024.

Georgia and Czech Republic both attempting to avoid joining that exclusive club, but a draw probably wouldn’t do either of them much good.

Would leave Georgia needing to beat Portugal in their final match, and Czech Republic having to beat Turkey.

Should mean we get an exciting match this afternoon. Should.

Main main in the building!

13:23 , Matt Verri

No goals in the opening match for Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, but he was a constant threat coming off the left.

The 23-year-old has 15 goals in 31 appearances for his country - will he get on the scoresheet at a major tournament?

With Portugal to come in the next match, today is, on paper at least, his best chance.

No surprises in the team news...

13:13 , Matt Verri

Pretty much as we expected from both sides.

Mikautadze and Kvaratskhelia will again be tasked with providing the attacking inspiration up front for Georgia, while Schick leads the line for Czech Republic.

Soucek captains his country - Czech Republic need him to get in the box more than he did against Portugal.

Stage is set!

12:43 , Matt Verri

We had torrential downpours the last time Georgia were in action, but no such issues this afternoon.

Glorious afternoon in Hamburg.

Sagnol: Georgia can be proud of last performance

12:32 , Matt Verri

Georgia boss Willy Sagnol was full of pride after his side’s performance against Turkey, as he believed they recovered from being too emotional in the early stages.

"It was a match with a lot of emotions because it was Georgia's first ever match at a major tournament," he said.

"That's maybe why the first 20-25 minutes were not so good, but I think the match will remain a good memory because the players showed a fantastic reaction and I think we did show something we can be proud of.”

So close and yet...

12:20 , Matt Verri

Czech Republic will also have taken some confidence from their opening match, despite the result.

In what was their toughest match of the group stage on paper, they took the lead against Portugal but could not quite hold on.

A stoppage-time winner from Francisco Conceicao left Czech Republic empty-handed, but they will be confident of taking points from their two remaining matches.

Match of the tournament so far?

12:11 , Matt Verri

Georgia have a lot to live up to.

Their first ever match at a major tournament was a sensational one, as they were beaten 3-1 by Turkey.

Brilliant goals, non-stop action, incredible atmosphere... tick, tick tick.

Standard Sport prediction

12:00 , Matt Verri

Both teams came out surprisingly well from their opening games, despite losing.

The Czechs will have to show more attacking emphasis though and could find themselves struggling against a newly-confident Georgia team.

Georgia to win, 2-1.

Czech Republic team news

11:55 , Matt Verri

Czech coach Ivan Hasek deployed a line of five players, and occasionally six, across the back against Cristiano Ronaldo & Co., but will need to be more adventurous against minnows Georgia.

This would allow Patrik Schick - joint top scorer at the last Euros - to operate more freely. The striker, though, is also one booking away from a ban.

Fiorentina playmaker Antonin Barak could enter the XI, with Mojmir Chytil and Adam Hlozek also options if changes are made.

Predicted Czech Republic XI: Stanek; Holes, Hranac, Krejci; Coufal, Barak, Soucek, Provod, Doudera; Chytil, Schick

Georgia team news

11:48 , Matt Verri

Georgia will need goalscorer Georges Mikautadze to remain on song, after he impressed against Turkey last time out.

Khvicha Kvaratskhelia was also, unsurprisingly, a real threat on the left wing and the Napoli star will again be a key man for his country.

Nika Kvekveskiri will miss the final group-stage game if he is booked this afternoon.

Predicted Georgia XI: Mamardashvili; Lochoshvili, Dvali, Kashia, Kverkvelia, Kakabadze; Kochorashvili, Kvekveskiri, Chakvetadze; Kvaratskhelia, Mikautadze
