'Ghostbusters' fans set Guinness World Record

Ghostbusters fans set a new Guinness World Record for largest gathering of people dressed as ghosts

The world record for the largest gathering of people dressed as ghosts has been broken.

Hundreds of fans have descended on the Event Plaza at Marina Bay Sands in Singapore in ghost costumes. The event, organized by Sony to promote the film franchise's upcoming reboot, was adjudicated by Guinness World Records representative Rishi Nath who confirmed that the 263 people present constitutes a new record.

"Seeing this many people get their ghost on and set a Guinness World Records title is a true testament to this amazing franchise that Dan, Harold and Ivan created 32 years ago," said the new film's director Paul Feig, who attended the event with "Ghostbusters" actress Melissa McCarthy. "Fortunately, I ain't afraid of no ghosts because we were up to our armpits in them. Ghostbusters of the world, gear up!"

"Ghostbusters", staring Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones, opens at US cinemas on July 15.
