Glastonbury route closed after serious crash

Four people travelling in a van have been injured in a serious collision.

Emergency services are at the scene of the incident, which also involved a lorry, on the A371 near Wincanton.

They were called at around 05:20 BST this morning to reports of the crash near Bratton Seymour, with one person "significantly" injured.

The road has been closed between West Hill and Gibbet Road, likely impacting thousands of people travelling to Glastonbury Festival this morning.

The lorry driver involved was described as "shocked but unhurt", while officers have so far been unable to trace the next of kin of those injured.

Police have urged motorists to avoid the area, with the road expected to be closed for most of the morning.

Anyone travelling to the Glastonbury Festival on the A303 eastbound can take the alternative A36/A361, A350/A361, or continue past the A371 and take the A359 or A37.

Avon and Somerset Police have asked anyone who saw the collision, or may have information or dashcam footage that could help the investigation, to get in touch.
