Glen Powell got 'hit in the face' at an “Expendables 3” party by a bouncer who didn't know he was in the movie

"Just because you've got a banner doesn't mean you're getting in the party."

Glen Powell may have starred in The Expendables 3, but why should that make him expendable at a good party?

The actor, who played expert hacker Thorn in the star-studded 2014 action film, has revealed that he got booted from the VIP section of its Cannes bash because the bouncer didn’t realize he was actually in the film.

“I did this movie Expendables 3 — it’s like Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Antonio Banderas, Wesley Snipes, Jason Statham,” Powell recalled in a recent Hollywood Reporter interview. “Somehow I’m the 'random' guy that snuck in. So I’m like the only unknown person in a cast of legends.”

To celebrate the movie, the cast attended the Cannes Film Festival together, where they drove “tanks down the Croisette” and had “all these character banners” draped across the Carlton hotel. But despite all the buzzy promotion surrounding the project, Powell said one very important person did not recognize him: the bouncer at the after-party.

“I got kicked out of the VIP section of the Expendables 3 party,” Powell said. “It actually got kind of physical. There was a large bouncer that was convinced that I shouldn’t be in the VIP section, so it kind of turned into a physical altercation where I got hit in the face at the Expendables 3 party, ‘cause no one recognized me even though there was a banner in the party of my face.”

He jokingly added, “Just because you’ve got a banner doesn’t mean you’re getting in the party.”

While the bouncer may not have recognized him then, there's no doubt they would now. Following his breakout role as Hangman in Top Gun: Maverick, Powell went on to lead the highly successful rom-com Anyone but You opposite Sydney Sweeney, and he's set to star in the upcoming action films Hit Man and Twisters.
