The emotional reunion between Gloria Romero and her former teacher made rounds on the internet, touching the hearts of many Filipinos.
GMA Public Affairs' Tunay na Buhay featured the viral story of ‘Lola Techie’ Virginia Benigno Malay, a centenarian who was honored as the oldest participant in a virtual reunion. As it turns out, Lola Virgie was also the former teacher of veteran actress Gloria Romero and the show helped reunite the two.
"One of our oldest liv𝔦ng actresses in the Philippines meeting her HS teacher, who is a hundred years old was really a one of a k𝔦nd encounter for both Tita Gloria and Ma'am Virgie. Longer life and more blessings for both of them," a netizen said.
Lola Virgie, who made a mark in history as the first Nursing graduate from the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital, has always been active in reunions but owing to the pandemic and her age, she seldom leaves the house nowadays. Instead, the so-called 'Lola Techie' only attends reunions on her computer through Zoom.
Asked what keeps her busy, she said she likes to watch television at noon. When she's done watching, she takes a moment to rest and pray.
It was here that Lola Virgie mentioned that one of her favorite actresses was the veteran actress Gloria Romero, who was her former student in Alaminos, Laguna.
Taking cue from this, host Pia Arcangel surprised the two grandmothers and gave them the opportunity to reunite with the help of the internet.
The actress expressed how happy she was for the unique opportunity. "It's so nice to see my teacher, wow!"
Lola Virgie expressed how proud she was of her former student. "I'm so proud of you, what you have reached as an actress and as a model pa!" she said.
For her part, Gloria was grateful that her teacher still remembered her. "Thank you, thank you so much. It's tearful that you still remember me."
