Golden Zhang talks about the effect of celebrity divorce
20 Apr - Chinese actor Golden Zhang recently defended celebrity couple Bai Baihe and Chen Yufan for their decision to keep their divorce a secret.
As reported on Tencent, the actor shared his thoughts about divorce online, saying that one cannot possibly compare the life experience of a celebrity couple's child and a child that comes from an ordinary home.
Golden began by saying that a broken home is stressful for any child, and that being brought up by a single parent can cause a child to have inferiority complex. However, growing up as a child of divorce when your parents are celebrities is another kind of pressure, he said.
"Everything [that happens in your family] will become someone else's subject of gossip and entertainment. [...] As adults, we can barely withstand such a pressure. How about the child? Can he understand it? How much pressure and doubt that he could bear that this is not his fault?," he wrote.
The actor added that it is enough for him that those who read his post will have some understanding and tolerance. He also hopes that everybody will be kind to each other.
While he himself is not from a broken home, Golden is married to actress Christy Chung, who was a single parent to her three daughters herself after two failed marriages.
