The PNC Championship was full of emotional moments between golfers and their kids, but few were as sweet as Annika Sörenstam’s post-tournament interview with her 12-year-old son Will McGee.

Sörenstam, 53, had tears welling up in her eyes as she recalled the moment Will stopped and asked her to slow down as they walked down the 18th and final hole on Sunday afternoon.

“I was walking pretty fast on 18 and he says, ‘Slow down, Mommy, I want to enjoy this moment,' ” Sörenstam told NBC Sports, as Will stood by her side for an interview after the tournament’s final round. “And I think that’s kind of what we did all week.”

Will, who also had happy tears balling up in his eyes, said playing in the PNC Championship with his mother is “the best week of my year.”

“It’s so much fun to do it with her,” Will said.

The NBC Sports interviewer then pointed out that both were becoming emotional and asked if it was a happy moment for them. “It is,” Sörenstam said, turning to look over to her son and throwing an arm around him, “because it’s so much fun and we have a good time together.”

The PNC Championship is described as “a premier golf tournament featuring major champions and their family members.” Sörenstam, a 10-time LPGA major tournament champion, has two kids — Ava, 14, and Will, 12 — with husband Mike McGee, who she married in 2009.

This past weekend’s family-style tournament also saw five-time Masters champion Tiger Woods golfing with his son Charlie while daughter Sam caddied. Others, like 2020 PNC Championship winner Justin Thomas, played the weekend-long tournament with his own father Mike.

Sörenstam’s son Will was able to mingle with both golfers over the weekend, as the down-to-Earth tournament often sees golfers and their families sharing laughs each year. Will said he got to meet the 47-year-old Woods, one of his favorite golfers, and said he was “super nice,” according to USA Today’s Golf Week.

The smiley 12-year-old was the youngest player in this past weekend’s tournament and also shared one of its funniest moments when Thomas, 30, came up to him during a heavy gust of wind and began teasing him about how small he is.

“He keeps telling me I need to weigh more,” Will laughed. “So, he put some golf balls in my pocket so I don’t fly away.”
