Good Morning Britain presenter Ben Shephard has responded to one Coronation Street character's obsession with him, describing it as "flattering".

Ben, who also presents Tipping Point, has caught the attention of Mary Taylor in the soap.

Superfan Mary, played by Patti Clare, shared her love for the presenter again in recent scenes that saw her discuss her funeral plans with George Shuttleworth.

She revealed she would love for her funeral to be themed around Ben, including a coffin designed as his bed.

Ben himself shared his thoughts on Mary's dedication to him during a recent appearance on Good Morning Britain alongside his co-host Kate Garraway and guest Richard Arnold.

Ben said he was "flattered", also sharing that he is flooded with messages every time he is mentioned on the soap.

He said that his aunt is particularly chuffed by Corrie's nod to her nephew, saying, "She is always beside herself because she's a big fan."

"Thank you to Coronation Street. It's very flattering and it's really hilarious," he added.

He also praised Patti for her portrayal of the character, saying, "The lovely Patti Clare plays Mary so brilliantly, it’s really flattering."

This isn't the first time Ben has been name-checked on Corrie. Mary previously left Sean Tully gobsmacked when she gifted him with a blanket covered in Ben's face.

"It makes perfect sense, don't you think?" Patti said during an appearance on GMB in 2020. "I mean in Mary's world being embraced by Ben is just her idea of heaven. So, she's put two and two together and come up with 10, and I think it's a brilliant idea."

"I'm thrilled to bits," Ben said at the time. "I'm very flattered as well, that somebody as discerning as Mary would feel like I can offer some sort of solace in these times of need and such uncertainty."

Coronation Street airs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 8pm on ITV1 and streams on ITVX.
