Google Pay lands in Singapore, will soon be available on ‘all Google products’

A remodel of Android Pay, Google Pay also includes popular features from its predecessor

Tech giant Google today announced the launch of its cashless payment platform Google Pay in Singapore.

A remodel of Android Pay, the app aims to make it easier for users to make offline and online purchases using various payment methods from their Google Accounts.

In a press statement, the company stated that the app is “just one part of everything they have got planned.”

“We’re currently working on bringing Google Pay to all Google products, so whether you’re shopping on Chrome or with your Assistant, you’ll have a consistent checkout experience using the cards saved to your Google Account. We’re also working with partners online and in stores, so you’ll see Google Pay on sites, in apps, and at your favourite places around the world,” the company said.

Key features of the app include:

  • Information on nearby stores, recent purchases details, and rewards and offers.

  • Cards Tab that keeps credit cards, debit cars, loyalty programmes, offers, and gift cards.

  • Security and encryption by Google

  • Existing features from Android Pay

Google also announced that the Wallet app is now called Google Pay Send in order to be consitent with the Google Pay brand.

In the meantime, the Wallet app is now called Google Pay Send, and we’re giving it a fresh coat of paint to go with the Google Pay brand.

The government of Singapore has been speeding up effort to convert the country into cashless payment system since the last half of 2017.

Startups such as ride-hailing giant Grab has also begun to introduce its cashless payment feature for use outside of the service’s ecosystem.
