“Great British Baking Show” Star Ruby Bhogal Engaged to TV Presenter James Stewart: ‘Time to Start Planning a Big FAT Indian Wedding'
Bhogal announced the happy news on Instagram, also sharing that she got sick with food poisoning just as Stewart was preparing to pop the question
Ruby Bhogal is engaged!
The Great British Baking Show star, 34, announced the happy news on Instagram Sunday that she is set to marry BBC presenter James Stewart. She also shared the story of Stewart's proposal, which didn't exactly go as planned.
"POV: you’re prancing around New York unaware you’re about to be proposed to 😬," Bhogal began the post, referring to clips she shared of Stewart filming her as she walked ahead of him during a trip to New York City. As he filmed, he held an open ring box, unbeknownst to Bhogal, waiting for the perfect moment to propose.
Several photos included in the post showcase Stewart surreptitiously holding the ring during other moments of their trip, including when Bhogal was asleep on the plane, brushing her teeth in the hotel and busy working on her laptop in a cafe.
Her caption continued, "I wish we had a romantic story to go alongside it but food poisoning managed to kick in right about 5 mins before he was about [to] propose and I was about to have a bridesmaid moment running across the street (iykyk)."
"So yay for love and yay for uncooked chicken in NYC," she added.

Bhogal's post also featured a photo of her smiling next to Stewart — seemingly after bouncing back from her illness — as she showed off her engagement ring.
"I love this life 🖤🥰," she wrote. "Time to start planning a big FAT Indian wedding but all I’m thinking about is the CAKE am I right?!"
She also joked about how she tried to keep the engagement under wraps for a while whereas Stewart just couldn't wait. "Have deceptively been hiding my hand in the recent vids because it’s taken me about 3 weeks to tell most of my family whilst it took James a whole 3 minutes 🫠," Bhogdal wrote.

Several of her Great British Baking Show friends congratulated the couple in the comments section, including Rahul Mandal, who was crowned the winner of Bhogdal's season of the show in 2018.
"Congratulations, what an amazing news. Waiting for this to happen for years," he wrote, adding, "But the big question is 'who is baking the cake?'... you have a lot of options, just saying."
It seems Bhogdal's fiancé had the same thought. "Who’s making the cake though 👀," Stewart commented.

In posts on his Instagram Story on Sunday, the TV presenter shared more clips of the lead-up to his surprise proposal. One captured Stewart following behind Bhogdal as she walked. "tbh I think she'd prefer a ring donut but here we go," he captioned the slide, adding a diamond ring emoji.
Another clip showed the pair visiting the Boston Public Library, with Stewart once again holding the ring behind Bhogdal's back. "Managed to take this thing around the whole of the East Coast without her knowing — I'm available for espionage," he quipped.
