There are perfectly good celebrity style moments, and then there are the looks that really stick with you, the ones you try desperately to recreate at home. In 'Great Outfits in Fashion History,' Fashionista editors are revisiting their all-time favorite lewks.

Though Britney Spears is arguably the eternal queen of the MTV Video Music Awards, there is one year in particular that ranks as her most iconic — thanks to not one, but two unforgettable outfits she wore for the occasion.

When most people think of Spears's 2001 attendance at the annual awards show, they likely picture her historic "I'm a Slave 4 U" performance featuring that green bra and yellow snake draped over her shoulders. But prior to stepping onstage, Spears showed off an equally memorable (and skin-baring) outfit, arriving on the red carpet wearing a navy-blue lace mini dress layered over a push-up bra and matching underwear.

The then-19-year-old completed her take on naked dressing with heeled strappy black sandals, tousled blonde waves and smoky eyeshadow. Though the look may be a bit risqué for the average person's everyday ensemble, it's the perfect outfit to recreate as an elevated and glamorous summer swim cover-up.
