Greenridge Crescent murder: Father of dead twins further remanded

SINGAPORE — The man who was charged with murder last week following the deaths of his 11-year-old twin boys Ethan and Ashton Yap at the Upper Bukit Timah area has been further remanded for psychiatric observation.

Xavier Yap Jung Houn, 48, who was charged with killing Ethan between 4.23pm and 6.25pm on 21 January at the covered canal located at Greenridge Crescent playground, has his case heard on Saturday (29 January).

No additional charges were tendered.

The case will be mentioned in court again on 18 February, a State Courts spokesperson said.

Last week, Yap's lawyer Anil Singh Sandhu made a plea to the media to give the family space.

"I am sincerely urging the media to give the family some space and privacy to deal with the loss of the two young children. The family is grieving," he said.

The police earlier said that Yap called the police hotline at about 6.25pm on 21 January asking for help at a playground along Greenridge Crescent.

Officers arrived to find Ethan and Ashton dead in a nearby canal.

The twins were special needs children, according to media reports.

If convicted of murder under section 302(1) of the Penal Code, Yap faces the death penalty.
