Grey's Anatomy confirms May return date for Ellen Pompeo
Grey's Anatomy has confirmed when Ellen Pompeo will make her return to the show.
The actress exited as Meredith Grey last month, though the star has stayed on as narrator, and when her departure was announced, it was revealed that she would be back for the season 19 finale.
We now know when that finale will arrive, with network ABC confirming that the two-hour event will air on Thursday, May 18.

Meredith's final scenes saw her depart Grey Sloan for Boston, though viewers were left largely unimpressed by her exit.
Speaking last year about her decision to step away from Grey's Anatomy, Pompeo told The Drew Barrymore Show: "The show has been incredible to me and I've loved a lot of the experience. Listen, it's just I gotta mix it up a little bit.
"I'm 53, my brain is like scrambled eggs… I gotta do something new or I'm literally gonna turn into like, you can't do the New York Times crossword puzzle every single day."
She added: "I mean, 19 years – that's more than people keep their kids in their house, like people keep their kids in their house until they're 18 and then they send them off to college, so this is like me like going away to college."

Elsewhere, the series has confirmed the exit of star Kelly McCreary as Dr Maggie Pearce, with McCreary saying in a statement: "After nine seasons, I am saying goodbye to Maggie Pierce and her Grey Sloan family.
"It has been a tremendous honour to be a part of such a legendary television institution as Grey's Anatomy."
She added: "Playing Maggie Pierce has been one of the true joys of my life and I leave with profound gratitude for every step of this journey. I am excited for this next chapter, and what the future holds."
Grey's Anatomy season 19 airs on Thursdays on ABC in the US. The show streams on Disney+ in the UK, where new episodes premiere on Wednesdays.
