This post contains spoilers from the Thursday, May 30 episode of Grey's Anatomy.

Nearly all the doctors at Grey Sloan Memorial had a bone to pick with Catherine Fox (Debbie Allen) on the season 20 finale of Grey's Anatomy.

After discovering Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) secret research, Catherine was hell-bent on getting revenge, regardless if she lost several surgeons along the way. However, Catherine soon realized there was one doctor who wouldn’t leave without a fight.

Lucas Adams (Niko Terho) — who awaited to hear if he would need to repeat his intern year after Sam Sutton (Sam Page) and was debating taking a new opportunity in Chicago — had the fellow interns and Miranda Bailey (Chandra Wilson) in his corner.

“You know as well as we do how demanding the intern year is but we’re working through it together. We don’t want to leave anyone behind or lose anyone. If Adams goes..,” Simone told Catherine as she fought for his future at the hospital.

“What? You all go. Is that really a threat you want to make right now? I could have all of you replaced by tomorrow,” Catherine responded and Bailey said, “What about me? Can you replace me?”

Facing Catherine’s Wrath

After Catherine fired her for misappropriating funds for Meredith Grey’s (Ellen Pompeo) Alzheimer's research, Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) debated returning to the hospital to help amid a wildfire wreaking havoc on Seattle.

When she arrived at the hospital, Meredith apologized for getting her fired but she responded, “It was my decision to fund. I’m just sorry that your research is in jeopardy.” However, Meredith wasn’t ready to give up the fight and believed they could use their research as “leverage.” She noted Catherine “won’t stand in the way of scientific progress” despite her personal feelings about them.

When she and Amelia Shepherd (Caterina Scorsone) presented their research, Catherine showed no forgiveness, saying, “You went behind my back, using my money, two of my best and formerly most trusted surgeons. Give me one good reason why I shouldn’t just end your career right now?”

After Meredith apologized, Catherine then acknowledged their research “changes everything” but then threw them a curveball: she asked them to turn over all of their work to Tom Koracick (Greg Germann) who would take over the research.

“You said yourself, Fox resources funded all the research. That means it all belongs to the Fox Foundation so hand it over by end of day,” she demanded. “And the two of you get to keep your jobs, same thing for Altman but this project is no longer yours.”

While debating her next move, Meredith pondered how Alzheimer's impacted her mother’s personality before diagnosis during a conversation with Richard Webber (James Pickens Jr.). He then told her, “I think my time might be up…This time feels different. It feels like I need to think about putting the scalpel down. But, I’ve been a surgeon a long time, I’m afraid if I stop I won’t know who I am.”

Meredith ultimately decided to allow the National Institutes of Health (NIH) to publish her research and told Catherine she gave her resignation to Richard. She explained, “This is too important to me and I don’t want to play the politics or the games with you, Catherine. It isn’t fair to the patients or their families.”

“You are just like your mother,” Catherine responded and Meredith added, “Great, that means I’ll win.”

In addition to Meredith, Amelia and Teddy losing their jobs for not handing over their research, Owen became another casualty of the secret research, which he discovered when his hospital key card no longer worked.

As Meredith said goodbye to Grey Sloan Memorial, her boyfriend Nick Marsh (Scott Speedman) surprised her and commended her for “putting everything on the line when you want something” and told her that he wanted to be “side-by-side” with her as she went on to her next challenge.

Going Rogue and Saving a Life

Despite the chaos at the hospital, Bailey became worried when her firefighter husband Ben Warren (Jason George) wasn’t responding to her text messages amid the wildfire.

To her surprise, Ben soon arrived at the hospital alongside injured firefighter Theo Ruiz (Carlos Miranda)  — who was crushed by a tree branch. As the doctors attempted to treat Theo, Ben implored them to “save his leg” as “his job’s his life.”

When Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd) was called away, Teddy decided to go rogue and take over to perform the procedure, despite no longer working at the hospital. She justified her decision, saying, “Catherine can’t blame me for saving a firefighter.”

On the way to the OR, Teddy ran into Catherine, who told her, “Unless Grey has turned in all of her research, you still don’t work at this hospital.” However, Owen had enough of her antics and told stop her “power trip,” adding, “If this man dies because you won’t let one of our best doctors do her job, then his blood will be on your hands.”

Ben was called back to work and Bailey told him, “You be careful out there, Ben Warren, and you keep me updated.” He responded, “I love you, Miranda Bailey, always have, always will.”

With the ORs full and the power flickering, Teddy chose to operate on Theo in the hallway. But Bailey was distracted by Ben’s final words to her before he left and decided she could no longer perform the surgery.

Once the patient was stabilized, Simone Griffin (Alexis Floyd) found Bailey, checked a database that tracked first responders and discovered Ben was safe.

A Surprise Pregnancy

Jo Wilson (Camilla Luddington) found herself in her own predicament after she collapsed at the hospital. When her test results came back normal, Schmitt was annoyed that she didn’t tell him that she was pregnant.

However, she was shocked by the news, responding, “I’m what?”

After a pregnancy scare earlier this season and her boyfriend Atticus "Link" Lincoln (Chris Carmack) saying he wasn’t ready to expand their family with a baby, she kept her pregnancy from him and claimed she collapsed because she was tired.
