SINGAPORE — Heavy traffic - similar to pre-COVID pandemic levels in 2018 - is expected at the Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints during the upcoming Hari Raya Puasa long weekend.

The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) has advised in a media release on Tuesday (18 April) that traffic at these two land checkpoints is expected to heavy from Thursday to Monday (20 to 24 April).

Those who wish to depart to Malaysia or enter Singapore via these checkpoints are advised to factor in additional waiting time for immigration clearance.

ICA said that, during the Hari Raya Puasa long weekend in 2018, more than 1.5 million travellers crossed the two land checkpoints, an average of about 380,000 crossings per day. The waiting time for immigration clearance was up to three hours, and there were continuous tailbacks from Malaysia's checkpoints that resulted in vehicle queues extending beyond Seletar Expressway (SLE) and Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE).

ICA expects the traffic situation for the upcoming weekend to be similarly heavy.

Things to note for a smoother journey

Motorists are advised to check the traffic situation at the Woodlands and Tuas Checkpoints before embarking on their journey.

They can do so via the One Motoring website or the Expressway Monitoring & Advisory System installed along the BKE and AYE. They s can also get updates through ICA’s Facebook and Twitter accounts, as well as local radio broadcasts on Money 89.3, Kiss92, One 91.3, Hao 96.3 and UFM 100.3 stations.

Singapore residents and eligible first-time foreign visitors who are travelling by bus can clear immigration via the automated lanes at the passenger halls.

Motorists are reminded to refrain from queue cutting, as it can cause severe congestion and compromise the safety of other motorists.

Travellers are reminded of the following:

  • They should ensure their passports are valid for at least six months.

  • Singapore permanent residents who have renewed their passport will have to transfer their Re-Entry Permit to the new passport.

  • Long-term pass holders will need to notify ICA or the Ministry of Manpower of any change in their passport particulars.

  • Short-term visitors, including holders of in-principle approval for long-term pass, are required to submit their Singapore Arrival Card with health declaration within three days prior to their arrival in Singapore.

  • Drivers of foreign-registered vehicles entering Singapore must have a valid Vehicle Entry Permit, the LTA approval email, and an Autopass card.
