Harlan Coben has revealed why his most popular character is yet to make an appearance in one of the TV adaptations of his novels.

A TV show centred on Myron Bolitar, the basketball player-turned-detective lead character of Coben's thriller series, was reported to be in the works at Netflix in 2022 (via Deadline).

However, the prolific author said that Myron has been difficult to cast.

Speaking with The Sunday Times, the novelist behind hit shows such as Netflix's Fool Me Once has weighed in on Myron's potential casting.

When asked if Stanley Tucci could take on the role of the tall, good-looking character who first appeared in novel Deal Breaker, Coben hesitated, saying: "Yeah, big fan, but he's a little smaller."

While a TV adaptation of Deal Breaker and Myron's subsequent adventures isn't to be ruled out at this stage, Coben has his hands quite full with multiple series at the minute, including Sam Claflin's Lazarus.

An adaptation of Missing You will star Slow Horses' Rosalind Eleazar and Fool Me Once's Richard Armitage.

Eleazar plays protagonist Kat Donovan in Missing You, an adaptation of Coben's 2014 novel of the same name.

"Eleven years ago, Detective Kat Donovan's fiancé Josh – the love of her life – disappeared and she's never heard from him since. Now, swiping profiles on a dating app, she suddenly sees his face and her world explodes all over again," the synopsis teases.

"Josh's reappearance will force her to dive back into the mystery surrounding her father’s murder and uncover long-buried secrets from her past."

Fool Me Once is streaming on Netflix, with the platform streaming Missing You at a later date. Lazarus will stream on Prime Video.
