Hayley Atwell says Doctor Strange 2 cameo was "frustrating"

Hayley Atwell has opened up about stepping back into the role of Peggy Carter.

The star, who has appeared in many Marvel movies, including Captain America: The First Avenger, Avengers: Endgame and, most recently, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, revealed that her time in the latest outing was "frustrating".

Talking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, she said she wanted more for Peggy.

"I felt like I had much more to do in the What If...? animation series.

"I loved that in that, they were able to give her more to do as Captain Carter/Captain Britain. So, it felt like a frustrating moment in Dr Strange because you are like 'This is it...'[she mimes going to say more and then being stopped]'... [and then] No, you don't.'

"Hayley also joked that fans wanted more of her Captain Carter: "I get so much slack [from fans]. It wasn't my choice when she is like 'I could do this all day' and it is followed by immediately getting cut in half by a frisbee.

And the audience is like 'She can't do it all day'."

She did, however, enjoy the physicality of the role: "She [Peggy] had less to do than she did before she had the shield, but what was great was the coming in and doing those stunt things, when she does the very quick run and then sliding on my knees and coming over backwards."

During the interview, she revealed that filming Dr Strange and Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part 1 back to back meant the stunt and physical training was fresh.

Hayley, who plays Grace in Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One alongside Tom Cruise's Ethan Hunt, revealed she followed a strict training programme from stunt experts.

"We had this expert team of stuntmen and women who oversaw all my training, so it meant I was fit for purpose," she said.
