Hazel Nairn: Remains found in river identified as woman swept away in flooding 19 months ago
Remains recovered from a river in Scotland have been formally identified as a 71-year-old woman who was swept away during flooding 19 months ago.
Hazel Nairn was last seen in the River Don, near Monymusk, Aberdeenshire, after she had been out walking her dog in November 2022 during heavy rain.
The body of her pet was recovered a few days later.
However, it was not until 7 May this year that officers discovered remains three miles downstream from where she went missing.
The remains have now been formally identified as Ms Nairn, Police Scotland confirmed on Tuesday.

Her family have been informed and her death is not being treated as suspicious.
Following Ms Nairn's initial disappearance, the then first minister Nicola Sturgeon said her thoughts were with the pensioner's family and friends.
