Heinz launches Sriracha-flavored ketchup

Take two of the most popular red sauces in the world, mash them together and what do you get? Sriracha-flavored Heinz Ketchup, the latest sign that Sriracha sauce has become a mainstream condiment in the US.

With more and more Western households adding the spicy, garlicky hot sauce to the roster of condiments in their fridge doors, Heinz has jumped on the growing trend and released a peppery version of its tomato ketchup.

The Heinz Ketchup Blended with Sriracha Flavor adds heat and garlic to its classic recipe and is supposed to pair well with cheeseburgers, fries, hot dogs, and as a condiment for chicken and eggs.

The latest hot sauce-inspired condiment joins jalapeno, balsamic vinegar and Tabasco-flavored specialty ketchups from Heinz.

Meanwhile, the popularity of the garlicky red hot sauce inspired potato chip-maker Lay’s to launch a Sriracha-flavored chip, while Subway released a Sriracha Chicken Melt Sub.

Taco Bell is also developing a Sriracha-themed menu that will include a Sriracha Taco and Taco Supreme, a riff on Taco Bell’s classics; Sriracha Quesarito (a mash-up quesadilla, burrito) and a breakfast offering of Sriracha Grande Scrambler.

The Heinz Sriracha ketchup hits grocery store shelves at Walmart and Target in the US this month.
