Argylle's first trailer has arrived to shed new light on Henry Cavill's mysterious new spy movie.

We got a cat-based teaser earlier this week, but the full trailer confirms the plot of the new movie from Kingsman's Matthew Vaughn. Cavill isn't even the lead as it seems that role is taken by Bryce Dallas Howard as spy fiction author Elly Conway.

Elly is a reclusive best-selling author who's happy spending the night at home with her cat Alfie. However, her life is upended when the plots of her books, centred on secret agent Argylle (Cavill), begin to mirror real-life.

Whether she likes it or not, Elly has to team up with actual spy Aiden (Sam Rockwell) – who's unfortunately allergic to cats – to stay one step ahead of the killers who have targeted Elly for her unique knowledge.

Argylle also stars Peacemaker's John Cena, Dua Lipa, Samuel L Jackson, Catherine O'Hara (Schitt's Creek), Bryan Cranston (Breaking Bad) and Ariana DeBose (West Side Story).

It will be released in cinemas worldwide by Universal on February 2, 2024, before streaming on Apple TV+ at a later date. The movie was originally announced in June 2021, before we got a first look in March 2022.

Before the trailer release, Argylle has been shrouded in secrecy and was supposedly based on a book yet to be published by 'Elly Conway'. Vaughn had called the book "the most compelling spy thriller I've ever read".

The director added: "When I read this early draft manuscript I felt it was the most incredible and original spy franchise since Ian Fleming's books of the '50s. This is going to reinvent the spy genre."

Now we all know that was a ruse, but the trailer makes it seem like Argylle will be just as compelling.
