HGTV’s Cristy Lee McGeehan Lists a Historic Estate in Upstate New York for $1.7 Million

A historic home set in the birthplace of New York’s first railroad is up for grabs.

In the tiny hamlet of Pine Bush, Bruyn Estate features a restored 1835 farmhouse and a brand-new log house. The two distinct buildings sit on 25 acres of land with views of the Catskill mountains, a creek, and open-canopied woods. Back in the 1800s, the Bruyn Estate, which is listed on the National Registry of Historic Places, supplied wool garments to luxury menswear label Brooks Brothers. The property was late acquired in the 1980s by the great-grandson of the founder of Singer Sewing Machines.

More recently, HGTV designer Cristy Lee McGeehan reimagined the four-bedroom, two-and-a-half bathroom farmhouse with whimsical flair and, even as it’s for sale, it’s being “prepped” to offer more. The same number of beds and baths can be found inside the log house on the property listed for $1.75 million. Bids for the home will be accepted from April 3 through 17.

The farmhouse’s carefully restored Greek Revival design includes three working fireplaces, wide plank floors, and original moldings. The kitchen and primary bath have also been remodeled to feature modern amenities such as a high-end stove range and glass-door shower.

The cozy interior offers vintage charm and modern creature comfort.

Eye-catching designer wallpaper and fixtures chosen by McGeehan are scattered throughout the house, which features high ceilings and an open floor plan. Wallpaper in one room features a sea-blue base flanked with colorful butterflies, while another resembles tall stocks of wheat against a charcoal gray background; both seem to play on the home’s outdoor surroundings.

Also mirroring its natural settings, and a stylish crossover between rustic and luxury design, the dog-Trot style log house that was custom built with reclaimed logs. Elsewhere on the grounds, a number of spaces await you for downtime with family and friends. Two fire pits, a patio, hot tub, and wooded walking trails are set just a few feet away from one another outdoors, including the animal stables.

There’s plenty to do nearby, too. Just off the Bruyn Turnpike, you’ll find venues for farmers markets, live music, breweries, and shopping. Other nearby hotspots for entertainment include the Mohonk Mountain House, Wildflower Farms, Auberge Resorts Collection, the Dia Beacon museum, and Minnewaska State Park.

The Bruyn Estate has been featured on HGTV, Domino, and the Magnolia Network over the years. And given McGeehan’s appearance on HGTV’s Steal This House, it only makes sense. The home is currently used as an Airbnb but could be transformed into a family compound, wellness retreat, or wedding venue.

Anthony D’Argenzio at Houlihan Lawrence holds the listing.
