Hollyoaks airs sad death in stabbing story

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks has confirmed that PC Saul Reeves has died following this week's horrific stabbing.

Wednesday's (July 20) first-look episode took place in the aftermath of DeMarcus being arrested for stabbing Saul, even though he has insisted he isn't responsible for the crime.

DeMarcus had been carrying a knife at the time Saul was searching the school and there is also an incriminating video showing him with the weapon, but it's not known yet who actually stabbed Saul.

The teen was eventually released under caution after refusing to comment on any of Lexi's questions, yet he faced the wrath of dad Felix for carrying a knife.

DeMarcus chilled his father by explaining he felt "weak and helpless" being bullied by Joseph and buddies, so he carried the knife to protect himself.

"I know I shouldn't have but I just wanted to stand up for myself, like you said," DeMarcus pointed out.

DeMarcus explained that the video didn't paint the true picture — he'd actually been handing over the knife of Saul to put in the amnesty box.

"The video cuts out before you see me hand it over," he said.

Over at Zoe Anderton's flat, Grace Black barged in with the video to demand action against DeMarcus. Zoe defended the teen, insisting to a defiant Grace that he would never stab Saul.

A tearful DeMarcus was at Saul's bedside at the very moment, explaining to an unconscious Saul how he'd only ever got the knife in hopes that he'd never have to use it.

"I never meant for any of this to happen. I'm sorry, I'm so sorry," he wept.

That's when Grace entered the room to declare: "That sounds like a confession to me."

Sid stopped a furious Grace before she could hurt DeMarcus, but she screamed that he would be "dead" whenever she caught up with him.

Grace finally snapped out of it once Sid revealed Saul was planning to propose to her and had even bought a ring.

On the outskirts of the village, Charlie Dean stopped Joseph from bullying DeMarcus once again but left him with some harsh words.

"You might not have attacked Saul, but you stopped being innocent the moment you put that knife in your pocket," Charlie insisted.

At the hospital, Misbah delivered the tragic news to Grace, Sid and Leela that Saul was unresponsive and only being kept alive now by machines.

"Grace, I'm so sorry, but Saul is already gone," Misbah explained.

The episode came to a very sad conclusion with Misbah at Grace's side as Saul's life support was turned off.
