Hollyoaks airs surprise appearance from returning character

Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Thursday's episode on Channel 4 streaming, which doesn't air on E4 until Friday.

As the village was grappling with the loss of Ella Richardson, Hollyoaks brought back a past character in a surprise twist.

Last seen in 2010, Hannah Ashworth returned with a big reveal for ex-husband Darren Osborne, who got to meet the two children he'd had from a previous affair with Suzanne Ashworth, Hannah's mother. And if that wasn't shocking enough, his wife Nancy got to meet the two teens before he did.

How did we get here? The sad day of Ella's memorial saw Nancy back at work as deputy headteacher, with headteacher Carter Shepherd tasking her with addressing the pupils in a speech about grief.

As if she didn't have a lot on her plate already, Nancy also had to show around two obnoxious new students, JJ and Frankie, asking prying questions about Ella's passing.

The siblings also showed up at the memorial, with Frankie making some disrespectful comments about Ella, prompting Charlie and Shing Lin to react.

Darren intervened to break the fight up, with JJ telling him he had no right to dictate what they could do as he wasn't their father.

"Actually, we might need to talk about that," Hannah said to a shocked Darren and Nancy.

"JJ, Frankie, this is Darren, your dad," she continued after a dramatic pause.

Meanwhile, the post-credits scene teased a showdown for Warren Fox who thinks Felix Westwood is responsible for Ella's death.

Determined to "end him", Warren may go too far in exacting his revenge. Can he be stopped?
