Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks aired James Nightingale and Ste Hay's wedding day tonight (May 18), but things took a tragic turn as Juliet revealed to her family that her battle with cancer wasn't going well, and she doesn't have long to live.

Things started off typically for a soap wedding, with the residents of the village getting glammed up, everyone stressing, and Ste going missing.

Tony Hutchinson and Sienna Blake soon found him handcuffed to a lamppost after the former finally remembered what happened on the stag do.

There were some cold feet between the couple before the wedding, as Ste admitted that he wasn't sure there would be balance as James is posher, smarter and richer than he is, but James admitted that Ste has changed him for the better.

The day carried on well after that, until it came to the reception and Juliet and James shared a special dance together as half-siblings. Sadly, Juliet collapsed on the dancefloor from exhaustion in front of everyone.

Unable to keep her secret anymore, Juliet revealed just how bad things are to her devastated family.

"I'm sorry James. I'm dying," she said tearfully, as James held her in his arms.

Earlier this week, Juliet's terminal diagnosis was commemorated with Hollyoaks revealing a campaign, Ode to Juliet, to encourage viewers to share their personal experiences with cancer.

"Juliet's Hodgkin lymphoma is now terminal. Over the next few weeks, you'll see Juliet tell loved ones, live out her last days, and then she is going to die," Niamh Blackshaw, who plays Juliet, said in the promotional video. "In a way to commemorate Juliet as a character, and to do something positive, we want to come together and share stories of loved ones who may have been touched by cancer."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
