Hollyoaks fans who have already taken the trip to the cinema to see Christopher Nolan's latest epic film Oppenheimer may have been surprised to spot a very familiar face amongst the star-studded cast.

Oppenheimer, which was released in the UK on Friday (July 21), features A-list actors including Cillian Murphy, Florence Pugh, Robert Downey Jr and Emily Blunt, and they are joined by a rather prominent soap star.

Actor Guy Burnet, who played popular character Craig Dean on the Channel 4 soap between 2002 and 2008, was spotted by fans playing scientist George Eltenton in blockbuster Oppenheimer, and it's safe to say that they were rather excited.

One fan shared on Twitter that they "absolutely did not expect Craig from Hollyoaks to pop up in Oppenheimer", while another tweeted: "Oppenheimer is absolutely breathtaking and, hopefully, the beginning of Craig from Hollyoaks' renaissance".

Several more viewers also shared their surprise over the actor's Oppenheimer appearance:

Oppenheimer isn't Burnet's first foray into Hollywood, though, as he has previously starred in movies including Pitch Perfect 3, Jacob's Ladder and Mortdecai.

Burnet's Hollyoaks character, Craig, is still remembered by fans as one half of a popular couple with John-Paul McQueen.

While dating Sarah Barnes, Craig fell for John-Paul, causing a major fall-out amongst their friendship group – but Craig and John-Paul seemed to get their happy ending when they eventually left the village together for a new life in Dublin.

Although John-Paul later returned to the village without Craig, the fact that the pair still share a son, Matthew-Jesus, means that there is still a tie between the former couple.

John-Paul is currently involved in a devastating story on our screens, as he was recently violently attacked in a homophobic assault, as part of a new storyline which will see John-Paul experience a life-changing time.

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
