Hollyoaks finally resolves mystery over Rayne Royce's murder
Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Friday's episode on Channel 4 streaming, which doesn't air on E4 until Monday.
Hollyoaks has finally resolved the ongoing mystery of who killed Rayne Royce.
Romeo Nightingale was revealed as the character in question, having accidentally killed his girlfriend Rayne during a final showdown by the pool.
Viewers know that Rayne was killed off in an hour-long special back in September, sparking a four-month whodunit mystery.
Show bosses had announced plans for Rayne's murder prior to that, with Jemma Donovan confirmed to be leaving the role.
The story saw Rayne's twisted nature finally exposed to everyone during the luxury villa party that she'd arranged to impress the producers of reality series Love Cave.
Rayne had invited Romeo, Prince McQueen, Hunter McQueen, Phoenix Hathaway, Zoe Anderson, Lacey Lloyd, Lizzie Chen-Williams and Nadira Valli to join in the celebrations. All of them have remained suspects ever since.
Spoilers for upcoming episodes had already revealed how the killer would be revealed at the start of this month, as the suspects gather to watch footage captured on Rayne's glasses.
Peri was the first person to face the music, as her final showdown with Rayne – which occurred after the incident with Prince – was aired for all to see.
Peri's friends immediately turned on her afterwards, accusing her of withholding vital information that could have had Prince released.
Hunter was next up, as the footage showed him witnessing Prince's violent altercation with Rayne and not checking on her, or calling for help afterwards.
Hunter also revealed himself as 'Truth Boy' – the person responsible for making the incriminating video of Peri.
However, the final twist came when Romeo was seen approaching Rayne following her run-ins with both Peri and Prince.
Still reeling from Peri's admission that she and Romeo had slept together, Rayne began attacking Romeo – who lashed out in self-defence, ultimately killing her,
Next week's episodes will explore the aftermath of this, as Romeo further opens up about Rayne's final night, leaving emotions among the group running high.
Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.
