Hollyoaks' Lucas Hay catches James out in Rayne death story

Hollyoaks spoilers follow from Monday's episode on Channel 4 streaming, which doesn't air on E4 until Tuesday.

Hollyoaks tonight continued the aftermath of the Rayne murder storyline as Lucas caught James out about organizing the recent attack on Brent.

Brent was attacked in prison and, subsequently, confessed to killing Rayne.

Early on in the episode, James received a text from an unknown number asking him to discuss their “fee.” Shortly after, Cheryl confronted James over Brent.

Cheryl accused James of organising the attack so that Brent would relent and “confess” to the crime. James denied this and told Cheryl that confessing is Brent’s best hope, legally speaking. However, Ste, clearly unsure, asked James if he was behind the incident and James again denied everything.

While James and Ste discussed Brent’s potential innocence, Lucas eavesdropped on the conversation. Ste still seemed unsure but accepted James’ explanation that “guilty” people always crack up.

James then got on the phone and told the caller that he had their money. He asked the caller to meet. Unbeknown to him, however, Lucas was still listening.

Later, James met the mysterious figure and handed them a brown envelope of money. James told the figure that the attack on Brent cannot be traced back to him. Lucas had followed, however, and was recording their conversation on his phone.

The figure then turned out to be none other than Norma, who assured James that discretion would be intact. Norma then left and James saw Lucas, threatening him. But Lucas revealed the phone recording, leaving James stunned.

Later, Ste confronted Lucas over missing school but James covered for him, claiming he was sick. With Ste out of the room, Lucas told James it was a pleasure doing business with him as he had blackmailed him. James handed over a new pair of trainers while Lucas deleted the recording. Lucas assured James it was a “one-time thing.”

In the post-credits scene, however, Lucas texted Dillon promising to get him his own pair of trainers. He then retrieved the deleted audio file.
