Hollyoaks star confirms huge new story for the Hutchinson family

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Alex Fletcher has spoken out about a huge, new story for the Hutchinson family.

We exclusively revealed yesterday (October 13) that Hollyoaks has recast Tony and Diane's children Ant and Rose, who will be returning to screens next week, alongside their sister Dee Dee.

Ava Webster and William Thompson have taken over the roles of Rose and Ant, respectively. Dee Dee will still be played by Lacey Findlow.

Scenes airing next week will see the Hutchinson kids take centre stage in a new story when Rose goes missing.

Moving beyond that, Alex – who plays Diane – has confirmed that this is just the start of a very challenging time ahead for the family.

Speaking exclusively to Digital Spy, Alex said: "This is the start of more heartbreaking things to come.

"We've got a massive story that we're going to be telling and I genuinely can't wait. I think I've got a lot to learn about myself as an actress, and it's going to be a challenge for everyone I think. We've never done anything like this before.

"We've got some really nice family scenes actually as well, so it's not doom and gloom.

"This story is gonna be a slow burn, and like I said, I think people are going to really invest in Rose's character. She's just gorgeous and I think when the audience see what she's going to go through, they're going to really feel it with her. "

Discussing Diane's reaction when she first hears Rose has gone missing, Alex said: "It's a pretty dramatic scene.

"We haven't really done anything like that for a while. I was a bit like, 'Oh God, I've forgotten what to do here!'. It was nice to do something we could get our teeth into, for all of us really."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
