Hollyoaks star Gregory Finnegan speaks out on James and Ste's future

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Gregory Finnegan, who plays James Nightingale on the Channel 4 soap, has spoken out about his character's future with Ste Hay.

The couple finally make it down the aisle next week, but the wedding doesn't through without a hitch or two.

Ste goes missing on the morning of the big day, and when he's eventually found and reunited with his husband-to-be, he has second thoughts and questions whether getting married is truly the right decision.

While discussing the storyline, Gregory opened up about the impact marriage will have on James and Ste's relationship.

"I think it probably will change how they operate. It has to, doesn’t it? There’s a lot more responsibility on James' shoulders now with Leah and Lucas to look after too," he shared.

The soap star also addressed Ste's concerns that he'll be the one making all the compromises once the couple marry, saying: "I don’t think he realises how far James has come. Could anyone imagine this event five years ago? James certainly couldn’t."

Ste and James may be opposites on paper, but Gregory explained that they work so well together because "they push each other out of their comfort zones", adding: "They’ve been through a lot together too — not always on the same side!"

However, while it looks like things are finally calming down for the couple with Eric gone and Juliet out of hospital, Gregory teased: "Nothing is ever simple, and you can be sure of plenty more surprises. This is Hollyoaks after all."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
