Former Hollyoaks and Coronation Street star Lucy-Jo Hudson has responded to harsh news headlines about her decision to work outside the world of acting.

Earlier this month, Hudson revealed her plans to work as a travel agent alongside auditioning for roles, calling her new side hustle the "perfect thing" to fit around her career as an actress.

However, Hudson has now responded to a number of news outlets which suggested she had been forced to take a new job due to a lack of acting work. Writing on Instagram, Hudson said the articles made her "blood boil".

"So I just wanted to speak from the [heart]," she began the lengthy post, explaining that during her 23 years as an actress she had often been "in and out of work continuously" due to the nature of the industry.

Hudson continued: "I have to audition like everyone else, and sometimes I get the jobs but a lot of the time I don't. That's just the way it goes."

The actress then went on to add that she had chosen to take up a side hustle during quiet periods as she preferred to keep herself busy as well as continuing to support her family.

"So when articles like this are written and appear from nowhere saying I've 'had' to find another job it honestly makes my blood boil," she wrote, adding: "I'm a grafter and always have been, and I will always want to find other sources of income that will fit around my main job which is acting.

"The acting world isn't drying up at all like the press make out, there's loads of jobs out there. And some will fit me and some won't! And that's just life!"
