Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe confirms new contract with soap
Hollyoaks star Jennifer Metcalfe confirms she has signed a new year-long contract with the soap.
The actress, who plays Mercedes McQueen, is currently on an extended break but this new contract means she'll be back soon to help the rest of the family recover from the Silas drama.
She told The Irish Sun that she'd taken the summer off the soap to spend time with her son Daye, but she's going to be sticking around for at least another year.
"I ended up having a nice summer off with Daye so it probably gives a little indication of what happens for a while," she said. "Mercedes might need a little time away to catch a tan.
"They're like, 'Are you going to sign another year?' Hell yeah! I have signed until this time next year and could not be happier.
"When I started, I remember thinking this is such a great job, and then all of a sudden it is nearly 20 years later."
The actress admitted that being part of the Hollyoaks cast never feels like work for her as she works with some "amazing people", which definitely helps.

"The time goes so quickly and it's just such a beautiful place – with some amazing people. There's not one day where it feels like work."
Mercedes left following an intense showdown between her and her archnemesis Silas Blissett, which saw them have to take part in an escape room and even a deadly game of chess.
What drama will she be involved in when she returns?
Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.
