Hollyoaks star Jessica Fox explains Nancy's suspicions in Carter story

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks star Jessica Fox has explained Nancy Fox's suspicions in the soap's current Carter story.

As part of a recent plot line, head teacher Carter Shepherd has turned his attention to troubled teen Lucas Hay, leaving John Paul McQueen suspicious of the head teacher after he attempted to practice conversion therapy on Lucas.

The soap has gone so far as to cast Alan Turkington as a "toxically religious" man as Carter's sidekick for even further conversion therapy, all masked under a 'mentoring programme'– and Fox's Nancy is set to twig that something's wrong.

"When Nancy questions why and starts digging around [for Lucas's mentoring programme], she finds locked whiteboards and realises there is no paperwork about this scheme," Fox explained to Inside Soap when asked why she and Carter clash.

"That makes her suspicious – if it's all above board why is there all this secrecy?"

Fox also added that she was pleased to be involved in the conversion therapy storyline, despite its nasty subject matter.

"I'm really glad I have a small part to play in it, I think it's an important, big and brave storyline. I also enjoy to dynamic between Nancy and Carter. David Ames is a hoot and I could listen to his stories all day long."

Following a recent return to the soap following an absence due to maternity leave, Nancy also teased what was in store for 2024, for Jessica.

"It's a new era but with a lot of old faces returning, which makes for a good blend of the familiar and the exciting," she said.

"A character I'd love to bring back would be Justin Burton, Charlie's biological dad. They say he died off screen – but we never saw a body...".
