Speaking to Inside Soap about the upcoming scenes, Lucy-Jo said: "It was tough to do but brilliant. The guys who came in to do it were just mega. There was so much smoke, we all kept having to nip out for some fresh air because it was quite intense, and very hot."

When asked how Donna-Marie's loved ones will react to her behaviour after Joel rescues her from the fire, Lucy-Jo said: "She was completely out of it and didn't realise she'd caused the fire, so is incredibly sorry.

"You'd think it would be a bit of a wake up call, which it is for a short period, but James washes his hands of her and kicks her out of the Nightingales'. Romeo is not really there for his mum as he has his own stuff going on with Rayne. Donna-Marie feels lost and alone.

Discussing Donna-Marie's relationship with Leela, Lucy-Jo said that although her friend wants to help, Joel tries to talk her out of it as a former addict himself.

"Joel tells her Donna-Marie is never going to change, so he tries to get rid of her. Leela has tried everything and given her the benefit of the doubt, but gets to the point where she can't do it anymore. That's when Donna-Marie leaves the village."

Teasing what's next for Donna-Marie, the soap star said: "To be honest, it's not going to be good. It will be a very dark, bleak and heavy storyline. Donna-Marie can't see a light at the end of the tunnel, which is sad."
