Hollyoaks star Ruby O'Donnell talks special Peri and Juliet episode

Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks is airing a very special episode soon, as Peri and Juliet take a trip to Brighton to try and take the latter's mind off her cancer diagnosis and treatment. Along the way, they run into Drag Race UK winner Danny Beard, but drama strikes due to an insensitive comment.

Most of the plot details have already been revealed, but Peri actress Ruby O'Donnell spoke to Inside Soap about what it was like for the actors' filming by the sea.

"They lose some of their belongings, which means they're a bit stuck," Ruby explained. "As they're trying to figure out what to do somebody comes along, sweeps them off their feet and saves them — it's Danny Beard, the winner of RuPaul's Drag Race UK!

"Danny has a van, nicknamed the 'drag wagon', and offers to drive us back to the village as they're heading that way. On the journey, Danny starts doing a livestream for their fans and gets Juliet and Peri on it, but some troll comes on and starts making nasty comments about Juliet.

"Normally she wouldn't care, but she's very sensitive at the moment and it really hurts her...

"We wanted to show the highs and lows of struggling with cancer, and to find the positive moments among the sadness of it all. It injects some happiness and energy into an upsetting plot — there are some big scenes, but it's mostly about Juliet and Peri having fun."

Ruby also added that she had never been to Brighton before filming the scenes, and that she and Juliet actress Niamh Blackshaw were "running around like children having the best time".

Hollyoaks streams first on All 4, with new episodes dropping each weekday morning. The show airs Mondays to Fridays at 6.30pm on Channel 4, and at 7pm on E4.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
