Hollyoaks spoilers follow.

Hollyoaks stars Ashling O'Shea and Annabelle Davis have sent a message to fans after their soap exits earlier this week.

On Wednesday's episode (January 10) Nadira Valli (O'Shea) left the village to start a new life in Norwich with Lacey Lloyd (Davis).

Lacey had previously left the village in October after her friend Rayne Royce's death. However, she made a surprise return in December to help defend Prince after he was accused of Rayne's murder.

Speaking about her exit, Davis said she was surprised the characters got their happy ending.

"So, Nadira and Lacey have left the village together. They got their happy ending, which I was initially quite surprised to read," Davis revealed.

"After Lacey's very abrupt exit, for Nadira to be able to sit down and listen and still be supportive and understanding, I think is incredible. For both of them to go through everything they have the past few months and still have each other I think is a real testament to their relationship.

"Those scenes were really lovely to film with Ash. After Lacey's very harsh exit, for her to be able to come back and lay out all of those feelings, because we don't always know the best way to handle some things and Lacey chose, I think personally, the worst way to handle it.

Davis added: "I really miss them both a lot but I hope they're having a lovely time in Norwich."

Saying her goodbyes to the characters, O'Shea said in a separate video: "I felt so conflicted, a lot like Nadira, when Lacey came back because the last couple of years have not been easy for Nadira.

"She's gone through a lot and she's grieved so much from the life she thought she was going to have, to her friendship with Shaq since he moved away, to her relationship with Juliet. She had to grieve that relationship, then she had to literally grieve Juliet when she passed away. She has been in a vulnerable position for quite a long time.

"She deserves a happy ending and it's so nice that I'm not the only person that wants her to be happy," O'Shea added. "I'm really glad she can go into this next chapter of her life happy with less drama and it's sweet she gets to ride off into the sunset in a really now healthy and kind relationship."

Hollyoaks streams first online via Channel 4 each weekday at 7.30pm. Episodes then air on E4 the following day, before getting their YouTube premiere a week after that.

Selected omnibus episodes are available via Prime Video.
