Holy Cross beats Buffalo on wild Hail Mary as time expires

Holy Cross shocked Buffalo with a Hail Mary as time expired on Saturday.

Matthew Sluka somehow found Jalen Coker for a 46-yard TD and a 37-31 upset win for the Crusaders. Holy Cross chucked it toward the end zone instead of playing for the guaranteed tie and it paid off. Just watch how it unfolded.

The throw was Sluka’s third TD of the day. He finished the game 12-of-21 passing for 238 yards and three scores while Holy Cross rushed 45 times for 219 yards. Sluka had 146 of those yards as he threw or ran the ball on 46 of Holy Cross’ 66 plays.

The loss drops Buffalo to 0-2 after the Bulls lost to Maryland in Week 1. QB Cole Snyder threw for 305 yards and three TDs himself as Buffalo had to kick a field goal with 31 seconds left to tie the game at 31-31.

Buffalo led 21-14 at halftime before Holy Cross tied the game in the third quarter and took the lead midway through the fourth. The win by the Crusaders was the third of a day for an FCS team over an FBS team and the second for an FCS team over a team from the MAC. Earlier in the day, Eastern Kentucky beat Bowling Green 59-57 in seven overtimes.
