Home and Away star James Stewart explains body transformation

Home and Away star James Stewart has spoken out about his recent body transformation, revealing just how he achieved the change.

The actor, who has played Justin Morgan in the soap since 2016, shared the news in April that he had dropped 12kg of weight and undergone a lifestyle overhaul in order to improve his physical and mental health.

He has now told The Daily Telegraph (quotes via 7news) that the main factor which helped him to make the change was adapting his diet, particularly giving up alcohol.

"No one wants to hear it, but most of the work is done in the kitchen and at the bar. The hard part is the food," he said.

"Every Sunday I'll spend a few hours filling the fridge - my kid [daughter Scout] is getting used to helping around the kitchen... so if she was going to put something in the microwave, I just wanted it to be healthy."

He added that the "hardest period" of changing his body was when he decided to give up alcohol, explaining that "you just have to go 'bar's closed'."

Discussing the job of the liver in cleaning out toxins, he said: "If grog is going in, your body only cleans the grog, it doesn't clean the food.

"So for two months, if there's no grog, the body gets used to cleaning the food — and then the love handles go, and that's where the benefits start."

When he first revealed his physical change earlier this year, the actor said that it was "one of the hardest things I've ever done", but added that it had been transformational for his "mental fitness" as well.

"I feel good about myself. A better man, a better husband, a better father," he said.

UK fans are about to see Justin involved in a dramatic new storyline, as he meets a troubled teenager who asks for his help while Justin is completing community service.

Justin and his partner Leah Patterson-Baker decide to step in and help the teen, but will their kind gesture lead to trouble later down the line?
