Home and Away's Mackenzie to suffer another huge health scare

Home and Away spoilers follow for Australian and UK viewers.

Home and Away's Mackenzie Booth will experience a major health scare in upcoming scenes, as she suffers a second heart attack.

Australian fans have recently seen Mac be diagnosed with Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection, a condition that involves a tear forming in the wall of a coronary artery, which supplies blood to the heart.

After Mac collapsed at the surf club, suffering from a heart attack, new doctor Levi managed to save her life - but Mac is struggling to adhere to the cardiothoracic surgeon's strict instructions to rest and recover, and is determined not to slow down.

However, TV Week reports that Mac's refusal to rest will lead to even more health drama as she battles to come to terms with her diagnosis.

"SCAD can slow or block blood flow to the heart, causing a heart attack, heart rhythm problems or sudden death," Mac star Emily Weir said. "It mostly affects women and can occur at any stage of life. The cause of it is still unknown, so it causes Mac a lot of stress."

In new scenes that will air in the coming days in Australia, and early next year on Channel 5 in the UK, Mac urges her paramedic friend Xander Delaney to sneak a peek at her hospital chart.

His apparent optimism after seeing her figures encourages Mac to discharge herself from hospital, leading Levi to rail at Xander for giving Mac false hope on the state of her health.

As night falls, paranoia strikes and Mac finds herself spiralling. In a panic, she calls out for Tane Parata, who rushes to Mac as she clutches at her chest, convinced that it's happening again.

After she heads to hospital, Levi assesses her condition and concludes that Mac has experienced a panic attack. But although he advises Mac to stay in hospital for observation, she refuses and heads home instead, despite her respect for the doctor.

"Mac is grateful for him and his expertise in saving her life," Weir explained. "She respects him for his knowledge and professionalism."

Unfortunately, this isn't enough to keep Mac in hospital - resulting in another panic. The following morning, as Levi prepares to end his shift, Mac is suddenly rushed in on a gurney, as Xander follows and cries out for help.

Levi quickly preps Mac for emergency treatment and promises that he will do all he can, as Mac's worried friends gather at the hospital to wait for news.

However, the doctor is secretly fearing the worst. Mac has survived one heart attack, but can she make it through a second?

Ahead of Levi's arrival, actor Tristan Gorey revealed that his new character would arrive "during a really high-stakes storyline".

"He's fighting to save the life of a central character," he said. "It's the start of a big storyline that will go on for a while and will certainly have fans gripped."

Home and Away airs weekdays at 1pm on Channel 5 and 6pm on 5STAR. First-look screenings air at 6.30pm on 5STAR and the show also streams on My5.

In Australia, the show airs Mondays to Thursdays at 7pm on Channel 7 and streams on 7plus.

Selected classic episodes are available via Prime Video in the UK.
