Hong Kong television stars mourn makeup master's death

9 Jul – Hong Kong celebrities recently mourned the passing of Chan Chi Tat, son of the late Hong Kong's makeup master Chan Man Fai.

As reported on Mingpao, television stars like Joel Chan, Pinky Cheung, and Kenneth Ma recently took to social media to express their sadness over the passing of Chan - who inherited his father's talent, and who had been involved in the makeup business for 30 years.

ATV actor Chai Kwok Wai revealed on Facebook that he couldn't believe that Chan had died, and revealed that the two of them have been friends for a long time.

Joel Chan, who has just recently returned to Hong Kong, said that Chan went too soon.

"I met him when I made my debut as a singer. He was a really good man. He taught us how to draw eyebrows and share tips on how to do the make-up for costume dramas. He was cheerful and nice to everybody," he said.

The stars of "Deep in the Realm of Conscience" also expressed sadness over his passing, especially since he was part of the makeup team for the drama.

"He would always introduce the next best makeup brush. I am still using [the one he recommended," said Pinky Cheung.

Kenneth Ma stated, "We're good friends. We often hang out together. The last time I saw him, he was fine, full of energy."

Said Edwin Siu, he was shocked by the news.

"He was a nice guy. He often bought things and asked everyone to eat with him. He also loved chatting with the actors. I hope his family is okay."

Chan, who has worked with ATV, TVB, and HKTV as a senior director of the makeup department, reportedly passed away a day after being admitted to the hospital for pneumonia earlier this week. He was 56.

Last year, his father, makeup master Chan Man Dai passed away from lung cancer.
