It’s been a while since we last talked about Honkai: Star Rail, HoYoverse’s next instalment in the Honkai Universe (after the fan-favourite Honkai Impact 3rd).

But it looks like the Astral Express is getting ready to take to the stars!

Still, before Honkai: Star Rail finally launches, HoYoverse has announced the opening of its last Closed Beta, with sign-ups happening on 24 January, 10am (UTC+8, 6pm Singapore time).

If you’ve been out of the loop, Honkai: Star Rail, although set within the universe of the Honkai series, is its own narrative, driven by the desire to explore the universe.

We will play as an amnesiac implanted with the “Stellaron” — the Cancer of All Worlds, which gives us unbridled power.

Along with the passengers of the Astral Express, aptly called Trailblazers, we will travel throughout the universe to dispel the threat of mass destruction by The Aeons as well as unearth the secrets behind their legends.

We had the privilege to take part in Honkai: Star Rail’s Closed Beta 2 for three weeks last year.

The game is different from the open world we’ve gotten used to in Honkai Impact 3rd and Genshin Impact, employing a Turn-Based RPG mechanic, allowing you to focus on strategizing when fighting against enemies. The gameplay is similar to other turn-based RPG games like Atlus’ Persona series.

Characters that we knew from Honkai Impact the 3rd are also available in Honkai: Star Rail, like the beloved Himeko, who takes on a second lease in life in Star Rail’s Universe.

Seele Vollerei, Bronya, and Li Sushang will also be encountered, but with different abilities and characterisations.

Meanwhile, Welt Yang, who was previously a non-playable character, will showcase his fighting prowess in Honkai: Star Rail.

The world-building and striking visuals which were showcased during Closed Beta 2 were also an amazing addition to the flavour of the game.

The city of “Belobog” which was made available to Beta Testers was a visual wonder that made you think of classical European architecture.

Although HoYoverse has yet to announce the exact date of Honkai: Star Rail’s release, we can expect it to launch within the next few months after the Final Closed Beta.

We can speculate the launch date to be March 7, after Honkai: Star Rail’s poster girl, named March 7th.
